The Fine Arts Commission has been working to bring a mural to the east wall of the AT&T building for more than five years. Last year, the Commission started discussions with Deerfield High School art teacher Michael Moran to turn the project into an experiential learning project for his graphic design students.
The Commission developed specifications for the mural and Mr. Moran used it as a lesson for his students. The Fine Arts Commission reviewed 30 proposals and chose six finalists to come present their proposals in person. Each finalist discussed their process and presented their artist’s statement.
The Commission voted to approve a design by DHS junior Ryan Wilde that features the interaction of light passing through various crystals on a deep purple background. Wilde will be at the Farmers Market information booth starting at 9:30 a.m. and there will be a brief ceremony at 10:15 a.m. at the market to discuss the program and honor the artist.
The mural will be attached to the east wall of the AT&T building and changed each year.
