Construction and Road Closure Update – 4/17/2025

Construction activity continued this week on the west end of Hazel Avenue, where crews made progress on water main and storm sewer installations. Overhead utility relocation is also moving forward west of Stratford Road, as AT&T continues transferring service lines to the newly installed utility poles. This portion of the project will carry into next week.

Starting Friday, April 18, construction will begin on the east end of Hazel Avenue, between Chestnut Street and Waukegan Road. As previously announced, this roadway section will be fully closed to traffic to allow underground utility installation. Detour signage will be posted, with traffic rerouted via Deerfield Road and Greenwood Avenue for over-height vehicles. The closure is expected to remain in place through early July.

During the east end closure, local traffic will still be permitted, but alley access may be delayed during construction hours. Residents in the immediate area are encouraged to use surrounding streets for parking if access to driveways or alleys becomes limited.

Next week, crews plan to begin underground utility work on the east end of the corridor, continue water main installation west of Stratford Road and begin roadway base excavation on the west end. Please keep in mind that all scheduled work is weather-dependent and subject to change based on contractor availability.

We appreciate your continued patience and support as we work to enhance Deerfield’s infrastructure. For questions, please contact the Village of Deerfield Engineering Department at 847-317-2490 and ask about the Hazel Avenue Infrastructure Project.
