A Message from Mayor Shapiro
Deerfield is among the highest vaccinated communities in Lake County with 77% of all residents 12 and older are fully vaccinated and another 4.3% having received a first dose. While that is good news, we still have work to do with positivity rates climbing again. If you have not yet been fully vaccinated, please consider doing so not only for yourself but also for others with whom you may have contact. It’s the right thing to do.
The CDC recently issued new guidance regarding indoor masking, regardless of vaccination status, based on the number of new cases per 100,000 people by county. In last week’s message, I noted Lake County was at a moderate level of community transfer, below 50 cases per 100,000. Today, we are at substantial community transfer at 95.33 new cases per 100,000. The Village along with other government entities and local businesses now require a face mask for entry due to the more contagious delta variant. I urge everyone to please follow the guidelines put in place by our business community.
There is a lot of talk about herd immunity, but let’s think about herd community. A community where neighbors do what they can to help reduce the spread of Covid-19 by getting vaccinated and following the three W’s in high-risk settings – wear a mask, watch your distance and wash your hands.
Thank you for doing your part to keep our community safe and strong!
Dan
