Coffee with a Cop - Wednesday, October 3

Zero Tolerance for Underage Drinking

Police

Now that the school year is in full swing and high school homecoming games and celebrations are fast approaching, the Deerfield Police Department would like to remind everyone that in Illinois drivers younger than 21 years of age are subject to zero tolerance laws for consuming alcohol – it is illegal for those under the age of 21 to drive after having consumed any amount of alcohol.

A violation of zero tolerance laws may result in license revocation, significant fines and extended community service. The Deerfield Police Department also reminds parents and businesses that they may be held criminally and civilly liable for any incidents that result from making alcoholic beverages available to anyone under the age of 21. The possession of alcohol by anyone under the age of 21 is prohibited.

The Deerfield Police Department wants all high school students to enjoy themselves and return home safely during this significant time in their lives. No parent wants to be awakened by a late night call or visit by a law enforcement officer. Underage drinking isn’t a rite of passage – it’s a deadly choice. We ask that everyone be extra diligent when it comes to youth and alcohol. We encourage all parents to make the tough decisions that will ensure the safety and security of our children.
