The blood drive is taking place on Friday, February 2 from noon to 6:00 p.m. at Deerfield Village Hall, 850 Waukegan Rd.

Tax season is right around the corner. That means there may be an increase in phone scammers pretending to be the Internal Revenue Service (IRS).

The IRS never communicates through phone. If you get a call claiming you owe money to the IRS, tell the caller
you know it is a scam and hang up. These subjects often threaten the caller with a law suit, arrest or jail. The calls typically direct recipients to call a phone number purportedly to reach the IRS. In fact, this is part of their scheme to collect personal information. Do not call the number given.

Remember these five things if you think you are on the line with a phone scammer:

1. You should never be asked to pay for any legitimate bill (utility, credit card, IRS payments, etc.) with any type of gift card.
2. The local police will never come to arrest you for an unpaid bill of any kind.
3. The IRS does not make "robo calls" (a computer-generated voice giving you a phone number to call back). 
4. There is no such thing as "Windows Security" that remotely monitors your computer and calls you if they find a "breach" or to tell you your "SECURITY KEY" has expired. 
5. Be extremely vigilant if someone is calling to tell you a loved one has been in an accident, arrested or stranded and needs immediate cash.

Do you want to help keep the Village’s water system safe and secure? Please take the survey linked here to register your backflow prevention device if it isn’t registered already. Residents will also receive a copy of this survey as part of their water bill. 

The survey contains questions regarding the number of backflow prevention devices in residential properties. The most common backflow prevention device is called a Reduced Pressure Zone (RPZ) device and is required to be installed on lawn sprinkler systems. If you home does not contain a Backflow Prevention Device, or your device is already registered with Backflow Solutions Inc., you do not need to complete the survey.

Thank you to our generous community for donating or participating for Give Where You Live - Deerfield, a "Day of Service" honoring Martin Luther King Jr.! On MLK Jr. Day, approximately 350 volunteers showed up to donate their time and/or goods. 

We were able to collect the following in donations:

• Over 50 bags of groceries
• Over 20 gift cards 
• Numerous bags of clothing and household items 

• 400 personal hygiene kits
• 180 care packages
• 35 no-sew blankets,
• Over 500 handmade notes of encouragement
