Storm, Flooding Update 2

The Deerfield area received more than seven inches of rain over the past ten hours from a multi-wave storm system. 
 
Flooding/Sandbags
The Village is making sandbags available to residents who need them. Public Works staff has delivered sandbags to some areas that have experienced flooding and will continue to make them available at the Public Works Facility at 465 Elm Street. Crews will be on hand through the night to provide sandbags and will help residents load them into their vehicles. Use the Elm Street entrance and follow the signs.

Residents can help reduce flooding by checking to make sure the inlets in their neighborhoods are clear of debris and refrain from using excess amounts of water, such as doing laundry, as the sewer system is experiencing high volume at this time.

Lake Cook Road Closure
Due to flooding along the Middle Fork of the North Branch of the Chicago River, Lake Cook Road has been closed to all traffic in Northbrook at Northbrook Court.

Power
The Village continues to be in contact with ComEd regarding power restoration. Most outages today occurred because of trees falling on power lines. Approximately 450 remain without power and ComEd crews are currently working in the Village. ComEd has online and mobile tools to track outages available here.

Cooling Stations
Village Hall and the Police Department are open and can be used as a cooling station for those without power. The Deerfield Library is open until 9 p.m.

Help Neighbors
Please be sure to check on elderly neighbors and others who may need assistance. The Police Department can perform a well being check. These can be requested by calling the non-emergency line at 847.945.8636.

Brush Pick Up
Starting next week, Public Works will collect any brush or limbs that are placed along the parkway.

Garbage Collection
Residents can call Waste Management customer service at 800.796.9696 to request a special collection for damaged items. 

Flood Safety
Please remember to be safe around flood water, whether it be in a road, creek or a basement. Lake County has on-line pamphlets regarding general flood safety and how to repair and clean a flood basement. The Lake County Health Department issued a press release today regarding flood safety.
