America250 Time Capsule Buried at Village Hall

This morning, Deerfield marked a special America250 milestone with the burial of a community time capsule at Village Hall.

Joined by community partners, the Village celebrated Deerfield’s history, honored the people who make the community special and looked ahead to the future. The time capsule serves as a snapshot of Deerfield in 2026, and was created with the hope that, when it is opened 50 years from now, it will reflect a community rooted in connection, service and pride.

During the ceremony, Mayor Dan Shapiro spoke about Deerfield’s future and the values that will continue to define the community for generations to come. He expressed confidence that while Deerfield will evolve over time, its heart will remain the same — a place that values service, neighborliness, civic pride and opportunity.

The Village thanks everyone who attended the ceremony, as well as the many community partners helping make Deerfield’s participation in America250 meaningful and memorable.

Deerfield Road Metra Underpass and Bridge Closure

Starting July 13, the Metra pedestrian bridge and underpass at Deerfield Road will close temporarily for rehabilitation work.

The project includes replacing the wooden bridge decking, sandblasting and repainting the steel structure and repairing areas with surface rust. Construction will also require the temporary closure of the Deerfield Road underpass beneath the bridge for approximately two weeks.

Village staff are continuing to coordinate with contractors and other stakeholders to help minimize disruptions and ensure the work is completed safely and efficiently.

Responsible Pet Waste Disposal

Picking up after your dog is a simple step that helps keep Deerfield clean, safe and enjoyable for everyone. Dog waste is more than an inconvenience — it can carry bacteria and parasites, create unpleasant odors and wash into storm drains and local waterways during rain.

When walking your dog, always bring waste bags and pick up waste immediately. Tie the bag securely and dispose of it in a public trash can or take it home and place it in your own garbage. Do not leave bagged waste on the ground, and do not place it in a neighbor’s trash can. Dog waste should never be placed in recycling carts or thrown into storm drains.

Cleaning up after pets helps protect public health, support cleaner waterways and keep parks, sidewalks and neighborhoods welcoming for all. Thank you for doing your part to be a considerate neighbor and responsible pet owner.
