Mayor Shapiro speaking at Zion Woods Ribbon Cutting

Zion Woods Ribbon Cutting

Mayor Shapiro and Trustee Oppenheim joined the ribbon cutting on Thursday for Zion Woods, a 25-unit, all-affordable housing development made possible by Housing Opportunity Development Corporation and Brinshore Development.

Mayor Shapiro welcomed the new residents and praised Village leaders for “doing the right thing” by seeing this project through after 10 years of planning and construction.

One new resident shared her joy, calling her new home a source of stability and an opportunity to build a better life.

Zion Woods will be 75% occupied by the end of June, marking a major milestone for affordable housing in Deerfield.

Fireworks Safety Tips

The best way to enjoy fireworks will be at the Deerfield Family Days professional display at dusk on July 3rd at Shepard Park. The use of fireworks in Deerfield is significantly restricted by Village Ordinance.

Fireworks are dangerous and unpredictable by nature and discharging of fireworks (including firecrackers, bottle rockets and Roman candles) is a violation of State law and Village ordinances. Also, keep in mind that backyard fireworks displays can be a nuisance to your neighbors, especially those with young children, pets and people living with PTSD and sensory sensitivities. The Deerfield Police Department enforces the local ordinance and State law where applicable.
