A Message from Mayor Shapiro

As summer sets in and our days stretch a little longer, our grills get a little hotter, and the kids’ laughter grows a little louder, allow me the opportunity to let you know about what’s happening in our Village.

In Deerfield, summer is more than just a season, it’s the time when we reconnect with neighbors and share in the traditions that make our Village not only a wonderful place to live, but also a strong, resilient and caring community.

On every Saturday morning along Park Avenue, our Farmers Marker is where you’ll find fresh produce, homemade goods, local artisans and something that’s a little harder to put in a basket—a sense of connection. Whether you’re picking up tomatoes from your favorite vendor or sharing a conversation over coffee, the market isn’t just about food, it’s about the relationships that tie us together.

Another Deerfield tradition that brings us all closer as a community is Family Days. From games and music to food and fireworks, this celebration on July 3 and 4 includes parents and grandparents, longtime residents and newcomers all of whom come together to laugh, share stories and remind each other that we are one community.

And of course, the Fourth of July Parade is when we honor our nation’s independence and reflect on what it means to live in a place that values freedom, democracy and unity. It’s about the volunteers who organize the parade, the police officers and firefighters who keep us safe, and the families who line the streets to watch the procession of floats and vehicles with pride.

Our Village, and our sense of community, is built handshake by handshake, smile by smile. It’s built at the Farmers Market, where we support our local vendors. It’s built at Food Truck Wednesday where neighbors gather to break bread together. It’s built at Family Days, where we make memories that last a lifetime and we gather, not just to celebrate the anniversary of this great country, but to reaffirm the bonds that make us stronger together.

I encourage you to come out and take part in our summer events — they’re a wonderful opportunity to connect with neighbors, meet someone new, and strengthen the bonds that make Deerfield special. When we show up for one another, celebrate together and look out for each other, that’s when our community truly shines.

Let’s have a safe, joyful and unforgettable summer.

Thank you,

Mayor Daniel C. Shapiro
