Compost Giveaway

The Village and SWALCO have a plenty of free compost soil to give away this weekend at the Metra parking lot at the corner of Sunset and Elm. And it’s possible some of it originated from your own curbside compost bin!

Reap all the benefits of using compost soil for your spring gardening, flower beds, landscaping and lawn. Please bring your own buckets. Shovels will be provided. There is a maximum of 20 gallons per household.

The compost giveaway will be open Friday (today) until 4:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. while supplies last.

Food Truck Wednesdays Return May 21

Food Truck Wednesdays are back starting May 21 at the Deerfield Metra lot — and this year, we’ve doubled the fun!

Join us for two events each month in June, July and August, featuring a rotating lineup of delicious food vendors, live music and kids activities that make for a perfect summer evening.

It all kicks off at 4:30 p.m. on May 21. Bring your appetite, your family and your neighbors!

Large Oak Tree at Metra Lot to be Removed

The Oak tree at the Metra Lot on Chestnut Street will be removed this Saturday after a recent inspection by the Village Arborist found it to be a danger to the public. The tree is approximately 200 years old and is in poor condition. For years, the Village has been working with an arborist to treat the tree and extend its life. Local Spiritual Assembly of the Baha'is of Deerfield have maintained a garden in the area surrounding the tree for many years. Village staff will be on hand to manage the removal and will work with the Baha’is to install a new tree or other landscape material at a later date.

Calling All Artists: Submissions Wanted

The Village of Deerfield’s Fine Arts Commission is seeking submissions for two exciting public art opportunities — including the mural installation on the east-facing wall of the AT&T building on Deerfield Road.

Artists ages 14 and up are invited to submit original digital designs that reflect Deerfield’s vibrant, welcoming community. Selected artists will receive a $200 honorarium and the mural will be displayed for one year. Proposals opened May 2 and are due by May 31.

The Village is also accepting artwork loans for public display in Village Hall, Public Works, the Deerfield Library, Park District facilities and the sculpture park. Submit up to three ready-to-hang pieces for yearlong exhibition. The deadline for artwork submissions is May 31. Learn more about both programs.

Deerfield Art Festival Returns May 31& June 1

Two days filled with beautiful art, live music and delicious food are coming up to get the summer season started.

Start off the summer with pride at this exciting show returning for its third year in downtown Deerfield on Park Avenue! The Deerfield Art Festival takes place on Saturday, May 31, and Sunday, June 1, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. It will feature 80+ juried artists selling their unique pieces including paintings, photography, ceramics, furniture, jewelry, wood, fiber and more. Live music, activities for kids, “Start to Paint” on-site painting classes, selfie stations, and the very popular “Kids Friendly Tents,” where artists invite children to stop at their booth to learn more about the art-making process, add to the family-friendly vibe of this event. Festival food on site and several restaurants just steps away from the artists’ booths ensure that no one goes hungry!
