Hazel Avenue Infrastructure Project Update

This week, underground work continued on the west end of the project, focusing on water main and storm sewer installation. These activities have resulted in increased heavy truck traffic in the area. Overhead utility relocation efforts also progressed west of Stratford Road, as Comcast and AT&T transferred their service lines from the old poles to the new ones. This work is expected to continue into next week.

Starting next week, the contractor will begin working on the east end of Hazel Avenue, between Chestnut Street and Waukegan Road. This work will require a full closure of Hazel Avenue beginning Wednesday, April 16. Detour signage will be installed early in the week to direct motorists around the work zone via Deerfield Road and Greenwood Avenue (for over-height vehicles). The detour will remain in place until early July.

Please note: All scheduling is subject to change based on contractor availability and weather conditions.

The Village appreciates your patience and cooperation as we work to improve local infrastructure. If you have any questions, please contact the Village of Deerfield Engineering Department at 847.317.2490 and ask for information about the Hazel Avenue Infrastructure Project.

Residents can sign up to receive email and/or text message updates on the project at the Village website under “Notify Me.”

Honoring Our Veterans: Field of Honor Display

From November 7 to November 11, 2025, the Village of Deerfield invites residents to experience a breathtaking display of 500 United States flags at Jewett Park.

This moving tribute, part of the national Field of Honor event, will serve as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by our veterans and active-duty service members and is organized by the Village, Deerfield Police Department, Deerfield-Bannockburn Fire Protection District, Deerfield Public Library, Deerfield Park District and Deerfield American Legion Post 738.

Each flag in this solemn display represents an individual and carries a unique story. Residents have the opportunity to sponsor a flag in honor of a veteran, active-duty military member, or another personal hero.

This year’s “Honoring Our Veterans” display is made possible through the generosity of sponsors, donors and dedicated volunteers.

Proceeds will benefit Midwest Veterans Closet and Lake County Honor Flight, organizations that support and uplift those who have served.

For more information or to sponsor a flag or become a corporate sponsor, visit the event website or contact Hannah Kroll at hkroll@deerfield.il.us or 847.719.7515.
