2025 Hazel Avenue Reconstruction Project

The Hazel Avenue Reconstruction Project includes the full water main replacement, roadway reconstruction and sidewalk improvements between Waukegan Road and Wilmot Road. This project was designed to meet federal funding standards and in 2023, was selected to receive nearly $5M in federal funding.

Preliminary work to accommodate the project improvements, such as tree removals and ComEd pole relocations, will begin in late February and the contractor will start underground utility installation west of Stratford Road in early March. The contractor anticipates completing the project by Thanksgiving 2025. This project will use daytime lane closures and detours throughout the duration of the project. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes during construction when possible.

Interested residents are encouraged to sign up for updates regarding the project from the Village’s project specific blog. For more information, please visit the Village’s website or contact Tyler Dickinson, Assistant Director of Public Works & Engineering at 847.719.7463 or tdickinson@deerfield.il.us.

Skip the Red on Valentine’s Day and Go Green Instead

Show the planet some love this Valentine's Day by composting leftover chocolates and wilted flowers with these tips from the Solid Waste Agency of Lake County!

Many chocolates (without wrappers) and natural flowers are compostable, as well as other Valentine's desserts such as strawberries and cake. Composting these materials ensures they will break down into nutrient-rich soil instead of ending up in a landfill. Be sure to remove any plastic, ribbons, or synthetic decorations before composting.

Celebrate sustainably and let your Valentine's treats give back to the earth!
