Downtown Lighting Ceremony Nov. 27

Join us for Deerfield’s Downtown Lighting Ceremony on Wednesday, November 27, from 4 to 5 p.m. in front of Village Hall, where Mayor Shapiro will light up the downtown and Village Hall at 5 p.m. sharp!

This festive celebration will feature complimentary treats, giveaways from local businesses, and live music by Deerfield High School Jazz Band students Mason Benjamin on tenor sax and Ben Gimelfarb on piano. Enjoy hot cocoa and coffee from Landmark Coffee, doggy goody bags from Hollywood Feed, giveaways from Shake Shack Deerfield, the Deerfield Police Department and the DBR Chamber of Commerce, and help from Walden’s Boy Scout and Girl Scout Troops.

To make this season extra special, the Village has partnered with the DBR Chamber and are inviting the community to help decorate the Village Hall pine tree! Stop by Village Hall to pick up a free clear bulb ornament, personalize it, and bring it to the ceremony to add your touch to the holiday display. Here’s how to make sure your ornament shines:

  • Add Your Style: Paint, ribbons, glitter—whatever makes it unique!
  • Weather-Proof It: Use outdoor-safe materials to keep it looking great in any weather.
  • Hang It Together: Bring your ornament to the Downtown Lighting Ceremony on November 27 to help decorate!

Remember to support our local businesses on Shop Local Saturday, November 30, as the holiday shopping season kicks off!

Final Week of Fall Leaf Collection

Leaf collection was halted Thursday, as leaf crews switched to plowing duty. Leaf collection will resume on Monday. This will be the final week of leaf collection. Public Works will make a single pass by each home in the Village over the three day period.

Residents wishing to have their leaves collected are asked to have them at the curb by 7 a.m. on Monday. Property owners should also make sure that leaf piles are not blocked by vehicles or other items that may inhibit our crew’s ability to perform the collection.

'Cram a Cruiser' Nov. 23

The Deerfield Police Department will host its annual “Cram a Cruiser” food drive designed to provide non-perishable food items to the Midwest Veterans Closet. Midwest Veterans Closet provides life's basic needs, from food to furniture, but mostly dignity and hope for our military heroes and their families in need throughout Lake County. This year the event will be held at Jewel, 16 S. Waukegan Road, this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Suggested donations include non-expired canned fruit and vegetables, canned meat, macaroni and cheese, cereal, peanut butter, jelly, canned soups, chili or spaghetti sauce, brownie and cake mixes, coffee, water, powdered milk and juices. See a full list of needs or donate directly to Midwest Veterans Closet on their website. Help us “cram” several cruisers again this year and start the Holiday Season off right.
