New Metra Fare Schedule

The changes in fare products and the new prices that took effect Feb. 1 are part of a major restructuring of Metra’s fare system that was approved by the Metra Board of Directors in November. Metra's goal was to create a fare structure that customers can easily understand, that encourages ridership, simplifies onboard fare collection, and meets Metra’s financial and technical constraints.

Fares under the new structure are set at or below pre-pandemic levels, and promotional fares introduced during the pandemic are being discontinued. Reduced fare rates are still available to certain groups, see the Q&A for more details.

Under the new structure, the number of fare zones is reduced from 10 to 4, with downtown stations assigned to Zone 1 and outlying stations assigned to Zones 2 through 4. The zones are based on a combination of distance from downtown, service patterns and ridership characteristics on each line, which vary.

Be Aware of Stranger Danger

The Deerfield Police Department is aware of several luring attempts in northern Lake County in the past week. There have been no reports of similar instances in our community and there are no threats to the immediate area. The Police Department would like to take this opportunity to remind the public to recognize potential luring situations so you can keep yourself and your families safe.

Many of these crimes begin with initially non-threatening conversation. Outdoor safety means knowing that predators use charm and hard-luck scams to get near you or isolate you before they attack. Your friendly and trusting attitude toward seemingly harmless strangers could make you an easy target. Adults in these situations can be polite but still warily skeptical. Avoid any physical interaction, like stepping close to look at a map or paper with an address, etc. Keep a safe distance from any stranger and, if it feels unsafe, remove yourself from the situation and call 9-1-1 right away.

An adult should never stop a juvenile and ask for help so remind your children that if an adult tries any of these tactics, they should leave the area immediately and call for help.
