LRS Tree Collection Dates

LRS will begin non-artificial tree collection on your regular collection day starting next week and continuing through Wednesday, January 24, at no added cost to residents, Please do NOT put the tree in a bag and be sure to remove all tinsel, lights and ornaments. If the tree is over 6 feet tall, it should be cut into two pieces. Trees must be placed at the curbside. Real wreaths without wire are also accepted.

Organic (compostable) material, such as yard waste and food waste, account for 24.9% of all the landfill waste in Lake County. Diverting organic materials to a compost bin means that our landfills won’t fill up as fast. Instead, food waste can be turned into healthy soil that can be used on farms and in many other ways.

When food decomposes in a landfill with no oxygen, it produces methane, a greenhouse gas that traps 85% more heat than carbon dioxide. Keeping foods and landscape waste from the landfills reduces methane gas.

With the organics/food waste option, residents can now play a larger role in reducing this type of waste in landfills while helping reduce greenhouse gases.

Complimentary compost toolkits consisting of a kitchen countertop compost pail, compostable liner bags and educational fliers with composting best practices are available for pickup at Village Hall. Learn more at the Village's website.
