Harvest Fest - September 9

Harvest Fest is only two weeks away with lots of fun events planned throughout the day!

Start your day at the Farmers Market with more than 30 vendors, the popular touch-a-truck and RC Juggles with free balloon creations and giant bubbles.

Then, come back to Park Avenue in the evening for live music, the bags tournament and tasty bites from your favorite food vendors.

• Gates open at 4:30 p.m.
• Parking is available at the Downtown Deerfield Metra lots and Lindemann lot. 
• Grab a buddy and sign up now for the Deerfield Harvest Fest Bags Tournament! Sponsored by Parkway Bank, this free tournament has remained a highlight of Harvest Fest for seven years. (Participants must be at least 16 years of age or older.)
• Live music by West End 40 5:00 - 6:00 p.m., 7th Heaven  6:30 - 9:00 p.m.
• Food and refreshments available for purchase. Food vendors include: Caldwell's Grille - Embassy Suites, Rosebud -Deerfield, Nothing Bundt Cakes, Serna's Grill, Mario's Cart, Da Pizza Dude, Donut Jester and La Humita.
• Beer, wine and water will be available for purchase (must be 21 or older to purchase alcohol).
• To ensure a safe and fun event for everyone: No Pets, No Bikes, No Smoking.

Waukegan Road Update

The westbound exit to the Northtrails Subdivision will be closed at North Avenue and Waukegan Road on Saturday, August 26.  Eastbound access into the subdivision will be maintained at Waukegan and North Avenue. Motorists seeking access to Waukegan Road from North Avenue must select an alternate route.

This closure is required as the contractor connects the new water main that has been installed on Waukegan Road to the existing water main on North Avenue. 

In an effort to minimize impacts to the traveling public, the Village has approved a 7 a.m. early start time on Saturday, so that the contractor may complete this work and restore access to the roadway as soon as possible.

Fight the Bite

Practice the “4 Ds of Defense” to protect yourself and your family from mosquitoes: 

• Drain: Drain standing water from items around your home, yard, and business. 
• Defend: When outdoors, use an insect repellent containing DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus, 2-undecanone, or IR3535 and reapply according to label directions. 
• Dawn and Dusk: Protect yourself all day and night, and wear repellent outdoors during these prime times for mosquito activity. 
• Dress: Wear long sleeves, pants, and closed toe shoes when outdoors to cover your skin. 

Culex?pipiens?mosquitoes, which are the primary carriers of West Nile virus, are most abundant when the weather is hot. Residents can help prevent these mosquitoes from breeding by eliminating areas of stagnant water from their properties. Items like buckets, gutters and plant containers, kiddie pools, and any other items holding water around homes and businesses can become breeding sites. 

As a reminder, residents who wish to be notified prior to adult mosquito control applications, notify the Southlake Mosquito Abatement District of water that may be potential breeding sites or high mosquito populations can do so at the Resident Portal/Hotline @ www.clarkeportal.com/hotline.
