Celebrate the 60th Family Days July 3rd & 4th

The 60th Deerfield Family Days will kick off another two days of fun July 3rd and 4th. Join family and friends for a holiday filled with fun and entertainment!

This year's spectacular fireworks show will be held Monday, July 3rd, at Shepard Park with live entertainment and kids’ activities. The gates will open at 5 p.m. and food and drink concessions will be available for purchase. Check out parking and event maps on the Family Days website.

On Tuesday, July 4th, head on over to the festivities at Jewett Park including breakfast in the park, the dog show, a variety of games and live music from Uncle Sam’s Band. Join the bike parade at 8:30 a.m. at the Rosemary Terrace parking lot. The Deerfield Rotary Club Race starts at 8 a.m. at Maplewood Park. Online registration is available through July 3.

The parade starts at noon on Monday and will travel from Deerspring Pool, west on Deerfield Road and north on Park Avenue where it will end at Jewett Park. During the parade, westbound traffic on Deerfield Road will be detoured at Heather Road.

This year’s Parade Marshals are Mayor Emeritus Harriet Rosenthal and the League of Women Voters of Deerfield/Lincolnshire. Rosenthal served 12 years as Mayor and 24 years as a Village Trustee. The League of Women Voters was founded in Chicago on February 14, 1920. Since then, the League has worked to register voters, sponsor candidate forums, provide non-partisan election materials about candidates, and study issues on the local, state and national levels in order to create a better-informed electorate.

Visit the Family Days website for more information about events on July 3rd and 4th.

Leave Fire Works to the Professionals

Leave the fireworks to the professionals. One good way to do that is by attending Deerfield Family Days. The spectacular fireworks show will be held Monday, July 3rd, at Shepard Park with live entertainment and kids’ activities.

Fireworks are dangerous and unpredictable by nature and discharging fireworks (including firecrackers, bottle rockets, and Roman candles) is a violation of State law and Village ordinances. Also, keep in mind that backyard fireworks displays can be a nuisance to your neighbors, especially those with young children, pets, and people living with PTSD and sensory sensitivities. The Deerfield Police Department enforces the local ordinance and State law where applicable.

Children Planting a Tree

50/50 Tree Program

The application for the 50/50 Parkway Tree Program is now available. Check out the list of trees available this year to find one that suits your chosen parkway planting location.

The Village will pay half the cost to plant a tree in the parkway.  Your tree will be balled in burlap, guaranteed for one year, and planted by the Public Works Department. Planting will take place in the fall. Trees will be planted in the parkway and cannot be planted on private property. Watch your tree next summer and, if you notice any problems, call us so we can have the tree examined before the guarantee expires.

The Village of Deerfield is a member of the Suburban Tree Consortium, which enables us to obtain high-quality trees at competitive pricing. Most of our trees will be ordered from Wilson Nurseries, Inc. The trees being offered through the program are 2.5” in diameter. Applications are due by August 31. This is a first come, first served program with a limited amount of each tree species available.
