Property Tax Assessment Appeal Workshops

Lake County is in the process of mailing assessment notices out to all county addresses. Lake County issues assessment notices by township and the mailing of these notices initiates a brief appeal period of 30 days. West Deerfield Township Assessor Andrew Richter will host a series of workshops to educate residents about the appeal process.

Residents will learn how to:

File an appeal of your Property Tax Assessment.
Select the appropriate comparable sales to use in your appeal.
Determine the best method of appealing your assessment.
Understand the assessment process.

The workshops will be held at the Deerfield Public Library at the following times:

Friday, August 19 at 10 a.m.
Wednesday, August 24 at 7 p.m.
Saturday, September 3 at 10 a.m.

Friends of the Deerfield Public Library Celebrate 15 Years

Come join the Friends of the Deerfield Public Library as they celebrate their 15th Anniversary with a party at the Deerfield Public Library this Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Cake and prizes will be provided.

The Friends are a not-for-profit corporation whose sole purpose is to support and enrich the resources of the Deerfield Public Library by making donations to defray its operating or capital expenses and to further the use of educational materials and enrichment programs for its users. They have donated over $160,000 to the Deerfield Public Library over the past 15 years.

Gifts to the Library include building and facility enhancements such as the outdoor book drops, the baby garden, pre-literacy interactive panels, display units, the memorial wall and artwork. They have also donated equipment and materials including projectors, e-readers, iPads, computers, a self-checkout, a laser printer, Lego discovery tables, memory kits for patrons suffering from dementia and special ESL materials.

Deerfield Optimist Club Hosts Ice Cream Social for 50th Anniversary

The Optimist Club of Deerfield invites residents to help them celebrate 50 years of supporting local youth at Jewett Park this Saturday from 2 p.m. to 4.p.m. They will also have a DJ, games and prizes.

Best known for their annual Christmas tree sale, the Optimist Club of Deerfield has a goal to make a brighter future and bring out the best in children. Over the past 50 years, they have contributed more than $100,000 in scholarships to high school seniors for community volunteerism, more than $35,000 to DHS sports teams, more than $35,000 to the Deerfield Park District Foundation, more than $50,000 to West Deerfield Township Food Pantry and more than $150,000 to various other local charities.
