Memorial Day Ceremony
The Deerfield American Legion Post 738 will host its annual Memorial Day Ceremony at the Veterans Memorial located in the Jewett Park Community Center parking lot at 10 a.m. Monday, May 30.
The ceremony will include traditional elements such as tributes by the Deerfield Sons of the American Legion, Deerfield scout troops, and the Deerfield High School Marching Band.
Following brief remarks, the ceremony will continue with a procession to the Deerfield Cemetery for the reading of the names of the buried who served their country. Post ceremony, the American Legion will host the community for an open house at 849 Waukegan Road.
Memorial Day is a solemn day of remembrance for everyone who has died serving in the American Armed Forces. The holiday, originally known as Decoration Day, started after the Civil War to honor the Union and Confederate dead and has continued each year since 1868.
Please join our Deerfield community in honoring our fallen service men and women at this outdoor observance. There is limited seating available, but attendees are welcome to bring chairs. Since the ceremony will be held outside, masks are not required but encouraged and social distancing guidelines will be in place.
