Lakeshore Recycling FAQ
Lakeshore Recycling will take over as the Village's residential waste hauler April 1.
When will my new carts be delivered?
Carts will start being delivered the week of March 22. If you are traveling that week, please arrange with a neighbor or friend to bring your containers to the backyard or garage. Deliveries will continue through March 31. If you requested a smaller cart size, your new carts may not be delivered at the same time as your neighbors.
Will my cart be new or has it been used before?
The carts are brand new direct from the factory. Due to the way they were shipped, the lid may not close all the way for a few days as it expands and settles.
What if I did not receive my new carts?
Lakeshore will be delivering carts starting Monday, March 22, through March 31. If you have not received your carts during this window, contact Lakeshore at 844.NEED.LRS (844.633.3577) or Service@LRSrecycles.com.
When will Waste Management pick up my old carts?
Waste Management will pick up your old carts after your last collection in March, either March 30 or March 31. Simply leave your old carts out at the curb. Please, do not use your new Lakeshore Recycling containers until your first collection in April.
What do I do with my old Waste Management yard waste stickers?
Update: Lakeshore Recycling will now accept any unused Waste Management yard waste stickers. This is a change from the original plan to swap them out at Village Hall. The Village and Lakeshore Recycling made this change for the convenience of residents.
Will my bill go up?
No. Monthly pricing is $7.77, same as under the current contract with Waste Management. The price is the same for all households no matter the size of the carts they choose. It will continue to be billed by the Village.
Can I sign up for backdoor service?
Yes. Backdoor service is available for garbage and recycling for $15 per month. This is billed separately by Lakeshore. To set up service, contact Lakeshore at 844.NEED.LRS (844.633.3577) or Service@LRSrecycles.com.
Will my collection be at the same time of day as it is now?
Lakeshore will have different routes and starting locations, so your regular collection time may change. Be sure to have your carts out by 7 a.m. so your collection is not missed.
Can I change my cart size?
Yes. New cart sizes may be requested through mid-May. Click here or call 844.NEED.LRS (844.633.3577) to register for a different cart size from Lakeshore. Default sizes are 95-gallon waste and recycling carts for single family homes and 65-gallon waste and recycling carts for most townhomes.
Is my collection day changing?
Deerfield will now be serviced on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (see map above). Should your service day be changed, you will be notified of the new day by a sticker that will be placed on your cart, as well. On your regular collection day, have your carts out for service by 7 a.m.
What is the new compost program?
As part of the Village’s new contract with LRS, residents can place organic material and food waste out for weekly collection. Each single-family home will be delivered one 35-gallon cart to be used for organics (food waste/yard waste). This service is provided as part of your regular monthly charges and will be collected on the same day as your waste and recycling service. Yard waste included in the cart does not require a sticker.
How do I start composting?
To assist residents learn how to fully utilize their new 35-gallon curbside composting container, the Village will have compost toolkits available to residents on a first-come, first-serve basis, while supplies last. The toolkit will include a free 2-gallon kitchen compost pail, sample compostable liner bags (BPI Certified) and compost educational materials and tips. To receive your free compost toolkit, please email Communications Coordinator David Fitzgerald-Sullivan at dfitzgerald@deerfield.il.us with your name and contact information.
