A Message from Mayor Rosenthal
Friends and neighbors,
Thank you, Deerfield! Thank you for taking COVID-19 seriously. Thank you for staying home. And thank you for looking out for one another.
Gov. Pritzker has extended the Stay at Home order through the end of May. The revised order also issues new guidelines for face coverings to be worn throughout the state. I implemented a similar face covering order that went into effect on April 22. With two competing orders in place, today I issued a new supplemental order to provide clarity for our residents and business owners.
Under the new Village supplemental order, anyone over two years of age and able to medically tolerate a face-covering is required to wear one when in a public place and outdoors and unable to maintain a six-foot social distance. This includes when patronizing an essential business, working in an essential business, taking public transportation or a taxi/ride share, working in or visiting an indoor construction site, performing professional landscape services, or when in the common areas inside of multi-unit residential, non-residential, and multi-use buildings, including elevators, hallways, multi-purpose rooms, and parking garages. Please take note that the requirement for common areas inside of multi-tenant residential and commercial buildings is new. Face coverings should cover both the nose and mouth. You can read my supplemental order here. We have compiled an FAQ with more information here.
As I said when the Village implemented its face covering order, “We are used to seeing smiles as we shop and go about taking care of chores. I encourage you to think of face coverings as a different kind of smile. One that says I care about you and I want you to be well. I’ll be wearing my mask to protect you, please wear yours to protect me and all of our dear residents of Deerfield.”
Gov. Pritzker’s new order will allow retail businesses to open for curbside pickup and delivery. It also allows for golf courses to reopen under strict social distancing guidelines you can find here. My new supplemental order incorporates these new regulations.
Remember, social distancing does not mean social isolation. Please continue to communicate with friends, family and neighbors. And please continue to stay at home and only leave for essentials. Do it for you, do it for your family, do it for our essential workers. #DoItForDeerfield.
Stay safe,
Harriet
