Mayor Rosenthal to Declare State of Emergency

Tonight, the Village Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. at Village Hall to review changes to the Village’s Emergency Management and Disaster Declarations and Authorities. Following approval, Mayor Rosenthal plans to declare a state of emergency in the Village of Deerfield. The Mayor will issue the Emergency Declaration and the order will be limited to the following regulations only:

• Emergency Purchasing – Emergency purchasing of goods and services for preparation, response and recovery from COVID-19.
• Emergency Staffing – Allows for emergency staffing protocols that may conflict with those set out in collective bargaining agreements to allow for emergency staffing.
• Cooperation with Other Government Agencies – Ensures a coordinated response.

Although this is a public meeting, residents are encouraged to watch from home on cable channel 10 or the Village’s livestream video to further social distancing measures. Residents with questions or concerns can e-mail them to the Mayor and Village Board ahead of the meeting at villageboard@deerfield.il.us.

Staff will deliver a report of actions taken to combat COVID-19 to the Mayor and Board at the meeting.

Village Hall Closed, But Staff Available to Assist Residents

Village of Deerfield has closed Village buildings with the exception of the Police Station at the end of business today through April 1 in response to the coronavirus. All public meetings with the exception of tonight’s Village Board meeting are also canceled through April 1.

Village Hall will be open on Tuesday, March 17, for the Illinois Primary Election, though there will be no in-person Village services.

Plans are in place for water, sewer and public safety services to continue without interruption. Non-emergency staff will be available during regular business hours to assist residents by phone, email or by appointment as appropriate. Waste Management collection will continue on schedule. Services such as utility bill payment can all be completed through the Village’s website, via the Village’s drop-box  or by mail – Village of Deerfield, 850 Waukegan Road, Deerfield, IL 60015. The Village strongly encourages residents and businesses to use online services as much as possible. The Village’s on-line Citizen Request Tracker has more than 60 categories of service requests. Although the Police Station will remain open to the public, out of an abundance of caution and in order to prevent, or limit, the potential spread of the coronavirus in the workplace the Deerfield Police Department is suspending the following non-emergency services until further notice: fingerprinting, child safety seat inspections, disability parking placards, ride-alongs, station tours and department presentations. Additionally, staff will be unable to accept donated food at the front desk. Parking ticket and alarm billing payments be made online through Illinois e-Pay.

The Village is no longer issuing permits for door-to-door commercial solicitation.
The Village will continue to reassess conditions and provide updates to the community on facility closures and public meetings. Please continue to check the Village’s website, sign up for E-News and follow the Village on social media channels for future updates.
These decisions were made based upon guidance from the CDC, which recommends limiting in-person interactions to prevent exposure and spread of COVID-19. As always, the Village’s top priority is to promote the health and safety of our customers, employees and community.

Election Update

Although now closed for in-person business, Village Hall, the Patty Turner Center and Deerspring Pool will be open to voters to cast their ballots. The Lake County Clerk today announced that Congregation B’Nai Tikvah will not be a voting site and voters for that location will now have Saint Gregory’s Episcopal Church as their voting site.
