Give Where You Live, Martin Luther King Jr. Day

The Village of Deerfield invites everyone to participate in a Day of Service today in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The event kicks off the sixth year of Give Where You Live – Deerfield, a year-round giving campaign spearheaded by Deerfield Mayor Harriet Rosenthal to help link volunteers to local community service opportunities.

Today from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Village Hall (850 Waukegan Road), volunteers will have a variety of service projects available, appropriate for all ages. Volunteers are needed to collect and sort items, assemble care packages and write letters and cards, along with other activities.

We are collecting the following in the Village Hall lobby and Police Department lobby (open 24/7):

  • Non-perishable food
  • Clothing, small appliances and household items
  • Sweat suits, socks and underwear
  • Toiletries
  • Gift cards to popular chain restaurants, such as McDonalds, Subway and Dunkin’ Donuts
  • Monetary donations
Donations are also accepted year-round and are earmarked for the following organizations: Midwest Veteran’s Closet in North Chicago (where Veterans can shop for free); VA Federal Health Care Center in North Chicago; and COOL Ministries.

If you have any questions, please contact Mary Anne Glowacz, Police Communications Director, at 847.794.7501 or by email.
