Village and ComEd Tree Trimming

The Village’s annual parkway tree trimming program began this week and it is anticipated that the Village’s contractor will complete the work in two weeks, weather depending. The work is primarily taking place in the Kings Cove/Colony Point, Briarwood Vista, and North Trails subdivisions. Residents can contact Public Works at 847-317-7245 with any questions.

In addition, ComEd has informed the Village that they will perform tree trimming in the northern portion of the Village (see map below) within the next three months. The vegetation management activities are a key component of ComEd’s maintenance program to ensure system electrical reliability, as vegetation contact with ComEd equipment is a leading cause of outages.

SWALCO and University of Illinois Extension Master Gardeners Announce 2022 Learning Series

Gardening and food bring people together. They foster a sense of enjoyment, peace, security, health and well-being. More individuals and families are reaching out and interested in learning how to start a garden while others are excited to learn how to compost. And, for those who are already gardening, perhaps we can help you "up" your gardening game.

The Garden Learning Series features a number of workshops to help and educate on a variety of topics. The first program will cover seed starting for your garden and of course, we will offer a program dedicated to compost and composting! Workshops will be held the second Wednesday of the month from 6:00-7:30 p.m. A list of upcoming topics and workshops can be found on the flyer below.

This program series is offered in collaboration with University of Illinois Extension and Master Gardeners via a two-year grant that SWALCO received from USDA.  The grant focuses on efforts to promote composting and food waste diversion, and also hopes to increase the generation and use of compost in commercial, residential, agriculture, and community gardens sectors in Lake County. Registration is free for all, thanks to the grant.
