2022 Village Budget and Tax Levy

A public hearing on the property tax levy will be held at the November 15 Village Board meeting. Also on November 15, the budget ordinance, fee resolution, and 2022 wage and salary ordinance will all be up for final consideration. The fees for liquor licenses for restaurants and hotels have been waived for a second year due to the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic and its impact on these businesses.

The total expenditure budget for fiscal year 2022 is $53,544,694, which represents a 4.27% increase from last
year’s budget. This year’s expenditure increase is primarily due to increased capital project funding.

As part of this year’s budget planning process, the Village Board established a two-year capital plan that would total approximately $19.5 million over 2022 and 2023, depending on federal grant dollars received. That includes a $7 million bond issuance and $7,385,000 of expenses from the 2022 Infrastructure Replacement Fund.

The operating component of the budget is $31.96 million, which is a 2.77% increase from the prior year. The increase in the operating component is due primarily to contractual increases in personnel services, and other contractual services and commodities.

Owners of a $500,000 home will see an increase of $20 from the Village's portion of the property tax bill.

Fall Leaf Collection Reminders

The Public Works Department began the fall leaf collection on Monday, October 25. During the third week of the program, staff collected approximately 1,000 cubic yards of leaves. In total, 2,000 cubic yards have been collected this year.

Please do not put out leaves more than one day prior to your scheduled pickup day. Vacuum hose machines are used to pick up leaves. Leaves should be raked neatly, as close to the curb as possible, so long as they are not placed in the street or on carriage walks or sidewalks. Doing this causes safety hazards to pedestrians and drivers.

On the final week of collection, make sure to get your leaves to the curb by Monday morning, November 22. Due to Thanksgiving, crews will not follow the regular schedule but will service every home during this shortened week.

Define 109

Take 5 Minutes To Answer One Big Question... and help Define 109!

DPS 109 is inviting everyone in Deerfield, regardless of if you have a student in our district or not, to help us Define 109. Our community ThoughtExchange is open and runs through next Friday! It's an easy, anonymous survey tool that allows you to leave a thought and rate others thoughts. (Don't worry, there's instructions on what to do if you're not sure.) We want to hear from you on this one question: What is the most important skill that students today need to have for them to live fulfilling and meaningful lives?
