Lanterns

Longest Night, Share the Light Event

On the winter solstice, areas of the Northern Hemisphere see the shortest daylight period of the year and the midday sun is at its lowest point in the sky. The night of December 21 will be the longest night of the year.

On this night, join us in the stirring beauty of paper lanterns far and wide.

What to do:
At sundown, somewhere close to 4:40 p.m., join our community in the lighting of paper lanterns — small bags of sand with a candle inside — all along your property line at the sidewalk or walking path edge. To learn how to make one, click here for a step-by-step video.

West Deerfield Township Holiday Wish Program

The West Deer?eld Township Holiday Wish program is an opportunity for our community to bring special happiness to some of our less fortunate neighbors during the winter holiday season. While we all enjoy the aspect of shopping for gifts, this year we know you will understand circumstances dictate a different way of making holidays happy for those less in fortunate in our Township. As we strive to keep staff and clients safe, we have decided not to accept actual gifts this year.

We are asking that those interested in being a donor purchase only gift cards . Gift cards could be purchased from local grocery stores, pharmacies, big-box stores, gas stations, local specialty stores, or local restaurants. This will bring joy and happiness to those hit especially hard during this dif?cult time.

If you would like to adopt a senior, senior couple or family for the holiday season, please complete the sponsorship form here.
