Mask Update

New State-wide Face Covering Guidelines for Dining

The State of Illinois today announced revised guidelines for restaurants and bar establishments statewide to operate safely and help prevent the spread of COVID-19. Based on a recent increase in cases, these latest guidelines will require patrons to wear a mask during any interaction with wait staff, food service workers and other employees at bars and restaurants. Face coverings must be worn over the nose and mouth when patrons are approached and served by staff, including but not limited to when employees take patrons orders, deliver food and beverages, and service tables. This guidance will also apply to other facilities with food services areas that are currently subject to the Restore Illinois guidance, such as indoor recreational facilities, museums and entertainment venues.

New guidelines go into effect Wednesday, August 26, and will require face coverings to be worn both in indoor and outdoor dining settings in all eleven regions in the state.

Patrons are currently required to wear a mask whenever on premises, except while eating and drinking at the table or bar. The new guidelines ensure that while seated, interactions between business staff and patrons can happen safely to prevent possible spread of the virus.

School Bell

Listen for Bells Tomorrow

On August 26, 1920, 100 years ago, the 19th Amendment became law, giving women the right to vote. The Deerfield Area Historical Society has organized a community-wide bell ringing to celebrate and commemorate the 19th Amendment. Tomorrow at 6:19 p.m., go outside and listen for our community bell towers to ring their bells 19 times. If you like, join in with a hand bell.

The bell ringing commemorates the Justice Bell, a replica of the Liberty Bell that was used to promote women’s suffrage. The clapper of the Justice Bell was initially chained to signify the silencing of women in the voting process. When the 19th Amendment passed, the clapper was unchained and the Justice Bell rang in celebration. August 26 is recognized nationwide as Women’s Equality Day.

50/50 Tree Program Deadline Approaching

The deadline to apply for the 50/50 Parkway Tree Program is August 31. The Village will pay half the cost of one tree per residence per year. You may purchase additional trees, however, provided that you pay the full cost for them. Your tree will be balled in burlap, guaranteed for one year, and planted by the Public Works Department. Trees will be planted in the fall. Trees will be planted in the parkway and cannot be planted on private property. Watch your tree next summer and, if you notice any problems, call us so we can have the tree examined before the guarantee expires. This program is for residential properties only.
