A Message from Mayor Rosenthal
Friends and neighbors,
At our Monday teleconference Village Board meeting, I, with the support of the Village Board, issued a supplemental emergency order that requires employees and patrons to wear a face covering when they visit an essential business. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends the use of a cloth face covering in public settings to help slow the spread of COVID-19. Effective, Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at 12:01 a.m. the Village of Deerfield will require all persons over the age of five to wear face covering when working in or patronizing essential businesses. It is my hope that these added measures will help up to bend the curve and prevent future cases.
Under this new order, face coverings are required when patronizing an essential business, working in an essential business, taking public transportation or a taxi/ride share, working in or visiting an indoor construction site, or performing professional landscape services. Face coverings should cover both the nose and mouth. You can read the supplemental order here. We have also compiled an FAQ with more information that you can read here.
Appropriate face coverings include non-medical grade masks, homemade masks, scarves, bandanas, or handkerchiefs. Please save all medical-grade masks for use by our medical providers and first responders. The CDC has published instructions on how to wear, clean, and make face coverings at home out of a T-shirt, a great way to reuse your Family Days Rotary Race and Tinman Triathlon shirts.
We are used to seeing smiles as we shop and go about taking care of chores. I encourage you to think of face coverings as a different kind of smile. One that says I care about you and I want you to be well.
I’ll be wearing my mask to protect you, please wear yours to protect me and all of our dear residents of Deerfield. Do it for you, do it for your family, do it for our essential workers. #DoItForDeerfield.
Stay safe,
Harriet
